My name is Dia Shepardson and I'm a professionally trained (DONA) birth doula as well as a postpartum doula (DONA). I have two beautiful boys of my own and understand what an incredible journey birth can be. I'm a student midwife at SUNY Downstate and feel very passionate about caring for women. I also was trained as a midwife's assistant at The Farm (Ina May Gaskin) in Tennessee. In addition to the comforting techniques I bring with me to a birth, I'm also familiar with Hypnobirthing, the Bradley Method and Birthing From Within. Before becoming a doula, I was a voice-over artist and improv actor for many years. I've found that skills from both have come into play when I'm assisting a birthing couple. I have a BA in Spanish and a MA in Theatre. I'm also certified in neonatal resuscitation, adult/child/infant CPR AED and have been trained in WATSU, water massage, which is fantastically relaxing.
